Pluto goes retrograde in Capricorn & Mercury enters Gemini: Time to tell a new story

Pluto goes retrograde at 28° Capricorn 36’ at 1:36pm CST and Mercury enters Gemini at 5:23pm CST on April 29, one day before the New Moon in Taurus and Partial Solar Eclipse on April 30, 2022. Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008. If you think back to 2008, perhaps you remember the Great Economic Crisis where banks failed, the markets crashed, and millions of people lost their homes. It was only the beginning as Pluto would transit through Capricorn, showing us the rot at the heart of our systems and institutions. It is moving through the last degrees of Capricorn now, and will dip into Aquarius in March 2023, only to retrograde back into Capricorn again for the last time.

I want to talk about money, something I consider to be at the foundation of all of our current systems and institutions. How many times do we hear “time is money” or “money makes the world go round”? Another one we hear is “money is the root of all evil.” I recently read a book called Debt: The First 5000 Years by David Graeber. I am currently reading Sacred Economics by Charles Eisenstein. You can find both of these books for free online. While they are both a dense read, the gist of it is this: the current financial-monetary system is built on a few premises: one, money in and of itself has value, two, when money is created, so is debt, and three, this system must always be in a state of perpetual growth. The results are apparent to anyone who thinks for themselves and reads alternative news. We are now at the edge of a precipice. There are things in nature which grow perpetually for a while, but one of two things happens: one, as in pregnancy, there is a birth, two, as in a cancerous tumor, the tumor kills itself by also killing its host. I believe we are now at such a crossroads. We can tell a new story and birth a new world, or we can continue with the old story and kill ourselves off (because I don’t think Earth will allow us to disrespect her any longer).

It is no coincidence that Mercury is moving into Gemini on the same day Pluto goes retrograde. Mercury in Gemini, in its highest expression, is the child who goes around in wonder and awe of the world and is constantly asking questions. “Why” is a younger child’s favorite word. They also love stories and are so imaginative and innocent. It is Beginner’s Mind. Please consider that everything in the manifest, physical world started out as a thought, an idea, and then if there was emotion behind the thought, it became a belief, and when that happens, you have a story. Once you have a story, then you take actions aligned with that story. We are creators, and we are constantly telling a story with our lives. This is just as true individually as it is collectively.

Mercury is going retrograde in Gemini, and will go back to the final degrees of Taurus, giving us a chance to rethink what it is that we value, how we are resourced (and what we consider a resource), and how we relate to the physical world (including our bodies, nature, earth, and life itself).

April 27: Mercury entered its shadow at 26° Taurus 05’, just three days after conjuncting the North Node and squaring Saturn at 23° Aquarius and the South Node at 23° Scorpio
April 28: Mercury at 28° Taurus trine Pluto at 28° Capricorn
April 29: Mercury enters Gemini
May 10: Mercury goes retrograde at 4° Gemini 51’
June 3: Mercury goes direct at 26° Taurus 05’
June 19: Mercury exits its shadow at 4° Gemini 51’

Astrology is also a story. It is a system that human beings thought up thousands of years ago to understand how the above (the heavens) and the below (the earth) are interrelated. The above and the below, the without and the within, are simply mirror reflections of each other. You cannot consider one without the other, for they are not separate at all. In fact, moving into the Age of Aquarius, we are being compelled by crises to let go of the biggest story of all (and which is also an illusion): the story of separation (thank you Charles Eisenstein). That we are separate from others and from nature, that we are self-contained islands unto ourselves. The truth is that we are a sum of our relationships: to ourselves, to others, to nature, and to life. We are in a state of interbeingness. When you grasp that truth, you will never be the same. Your values will totally shift, you will seek to tell a different story for yourself, and you will pray that humanity will choose to tell a different story as well.
