Mercury enters Aquarius: Rethinking our creativity

Mercury entered Aquarius on January 2, 2022

Mercury entered Aquarius on January 2, 2022 at 1:09am CST and was already in its retrograde shadow. Mercury is a mental energy, how we think, perceive, and communicate. Moving into Aquarius, the sign that resonates strongly with Uranus, we are being invited to change how we think, perceive, and communicate if we want to truly be authentic and free beings. Uranus is all about freedom and authenticity. Uranus will rock your world if you are straying from your authentic soul expression! Aquarius has a lower and higher expression, as all energies do. I wrote an entire blog post on The Shadow of Aquarius. The higher expression of Aquarius is contributing your unique genius to the collective organism of humanity. But you can only do that if you know what you came here to contribute. You need to work that out as you move through the signs Aries – Capricorn.

That brings me to the significance of Capricorn here. Mercury is going to retrograde in Aquarius, an air sign, but it is going back into Capricorn as well. Capricorn is an earth sign and a manifestation energy. What is worth the commitment, dedication, and mastery to bring into form? What is worth building? For far too long, humanity has been building things devoid of heart and soul, completely disregarding any impacts on the natural world, of which we are an integral part. An idea I have been sitting with these past few days is: just because I can create, make, and/or build something does not mean that I should. This brings me back to Aquarius. Aquarius can be very high-minded, idealistic, humanitarian, genius, and I would even say quantumly creative. But consider the Star Card in the Rider Waite Tarot, the card that represents Aquarius.

Star Card from the Rider Waite Tarot

In this card, the woman has one foot firmly on the earth and one in the water, but clearly, she is being divinely inspired by the heavens as you can see the stars radiating prominently. She is taking heavenly inspiration and pouring it forth onto the earth. This, to me, illustrates what this Mercury retrograde is inviting us to consider. To consider any thoughts, inspirations, and ideas we have in a wholistic context. Is what I am considering creating truly going to contribute to the world? We are inherently creative beings, but if we are not creating with heart (highest expression of Leo, the opposite sign of Aquarius), then our creations could have detrimental consequences to the whole.
