After having been relegated to the indoors for four days in a row because of the unusually cold weather happening where I live, I feel like Persephone abducted to the realm of Hades with no hope of feeling spring ever again. Longing for sun, warmth, and green, I look out on the gray, cold, and bleak. I am reminded of Ceres, the goddess of fertility and nurturance, and how I am a part of the natural cycles of life, winter as much as spring. Winter brings its own wisdom, showing me that it is okay to rest, rejuvenate, and prepare the seeds I want to plant in spring.
