January 30, 2021: Mercury goes retrograde at 26 degrees Aquarius. Ahh, Mercury Retrograde. Lots of people have been lead to fear this time of the year. I hear people saying that you should hold off on making major decisions and signing contracts, triple check your communications, and backup your files in case of Mercurial interruptions. Mercury Retrograde happens three times a year. You can absolutely make major decisions as long as you have done your due diligence, you should always think carefully before signing a contract, triple checking your communications is always wise, especially with Neptune square the Nodes, and backing up your files is always a good idea, Mercury Retrograde or not.
Mercury Retrograde is a wonderful time to take a break from your usual way of perceiving, thinking, and communicating and to rethink, review, and reimagine. This is a great time to brush off projects you have started and put on hold and take another look at them, see if there is something you can reimagine or revitalize. Mercury Retrograde usually takes place in one element each year, and this year it is retrograding in air signs. Mercury entered its shadow on January 15 at 11 degrees Aquarius, Mercury turns direct on February 20, and Mercury exits its shadow on March 13 at 26 degrees Aquarius. Whatever came up for you around mid-January will be what you are reimagining and rethinking during this Mercury Retrograde.
Mercury likes being in Aquarius because Aquarius is an air sign, and Mercury does very well in the air signs. Mercury can perceive, process, think, and communicate quickly and efficiently in air. There are no dense energies to slow it down like when it is in earth signs and no emotions to get in its way like when it is in water signs. Mercury in Aquarius is the revolutionary, genius, out-of-the-box thinker, the one who can perceive beyond this world and into other dimensions, the one who is open to the weird, the otherworldly, and the extraterrestrial, and the one who is not shy of communicating about these offbeat and otherworldly subjects. Mercury in Aquarius does not care what other people think because it is proudly marching to the beat of its own unique genius. Where can you be more uniquely you? What genius do you have to contribute to your community, to the world?
February 1, 2021: Venus enters Aquarius, joining Mercury, the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn. After really getting down to business and examining your values in Capricorn, Venus in Aquarius invites you to consider how what you value contributes to moving your life forward, not only for the good of yourself, but for the good of your community and the world. What is uniquely yours to contribute? Venus is your heart, what you love, what you desire, how you receive, the values you place on yourself and others, and in the very detached and mental sign of Aquarius, we have an opportunity to examine our desire nature and values from an unemotional, observer perspective. Are we being served by our values? Are we serving others?
Sun at 11 degrees Aquarius square Mars at 11 degrees Taurus. The Sun is our vitality, our purpose and Mars is our drive, how we go about getting what we want out of life. The Sun in Aquarius is the one who shines in their unique genius and Mars in Taurus is slow but steady progress towards building what we want in our lives. A square is a 90 degree angle that urges you to go in another direction from the one you were currently heading in. You could feel like a change of direction is just what is needed to move forward on the projects you started last year when Mars was in Aries. A shift could be just the thing to help you align even more authentically with who you are now.
