Winter Solstice 2020

December 21, 2020 Winter Solstice Chart

December 21, 2020: Winter Solstice for those in the Northern Hemisphere, Summer Solstice for those in the Southern Hemisphere, or Capricorn Solstice for all Earthlings. The Capricorn Solstice occurs when the axis of the Earth is tilted such that the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun and the Southern Hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun. The Sun moves into Capricorn, marking the initiation into a new season, from Fall to Winter here in the North and Spring to Summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The solstices and equinoxes used to be celebrated by our ancestors. They even built monuments like Stonehenge and other sacred sites to mark these special days. Some people even now are in tune with these cycles and likewise will mark this day with celebration and ceremony. This Solstice is jam-packed with big astrology, and hey, after the rest of the year we’ve had, this is just another day on Earth.

Mercury entered Capricorn just the day before, so the Sun joins up with it again, in addition to Jupiter and Saturn meeting together in the sign of Aquarius for the Grand Conjunction. To add to the action, Mars is within a day of its exact conjunction with Eris in Aries and two days from its exact square to Pluto in Capricorn. Neptune and the Moon are conjunct in Pisces square the Nodes in Gemini and Sagittarius, Venus in Sagittarius is trine Chiron in Aries, Venus is quincunx Uranus, Uranus is conjunct Black Moon Lillith in Taurus, and Saturn has begun to pick up on its square to Uranus in Taurus, which is the big astrological event of 2021.

Sun entering Capricorn to join Mercury, while Jupiter and Saturn are meeting up at the beginning of Aquarius, speaks of a transitional energy. The Sun and Mercury together again in Capricorn after having just been involved in the Total Solar Eclipse and then meeting at the Galactic Center in Sagittarius speaks to a change in how we perceive the world, perhaps perceiving things from a more Cosmic lens. Have we opened up to this powerful energetic portal we are currently transitioning through, shed old beliefs and dogmas that were limiting us and our possibilities, and listened to the heart of the galaxy for true Wisdom?

Jupiter and Saturn’s conjunction heralds a social transition. Can we expand our vision enough to build a world that is more egalitarian, community-oriented, and honors the unique contribution of the individual to the whole? Concern for the greater good is not about having a hive mentality but embracing our individual uniqueness and harnessing our own genius in service to our families, communities, and the world at large.

With Mars conjunct Eris in Aries and square to Pluto in Capricorn, there is a growing demand that our authentic expression be recognized, that everyone gets invited to the party, or else there may be some clash with authorities that are propping up the existing institutions and structures no matter how dilapidated or in desperate need of reform they may be.

Neptune and the Moon square the Nodes speaks to more illusion, delusion, and media manipulation. We know so little, so how can anyone claim to know the facts and the truth? There is also the possibility to receive spiritual downloads and connect to the world beyond this one. Contemplate this from space.com: “All the stars, planets and galaxies that can be seen today make up just 4 percent of the universe. The other 96 percent is made of stuff astronomers can’t see, detect or even comprehend.” What is possible if you tapped into the 96 percent?

Venus in Sagittarius trine Chiron in Aries is giving us a beautiful boost of loving and healing energy to power through the end of this long and grueling year.

Venus in Sagittarius quincunx Uranus in Taurus speaks to a revolutionary adjustment in what we value. If you haven’t already been doing it this year, it is time to ask yourself what you really value and why. You cannot take it with you, so what exactly are we doing and how can we revolutionize the way we treat our bodies, each other, and the Earth?

Uranus conjunct Black Moon Lillith in Taurus is an aspect that speaks to the shadow that is created when we ignore parts of ourselves, other people, or our own responsibility to care for this planet on which we all live and call home. What has to happen before we come together as one people under the same sky and living on the same earth? Must we undergo the shocks and surprises of Uranus in Taurus jolting us awake to concerns that are much greater than red or blue, black or white.

Now that Saturn is in Aquarius, it is picking up on the square to Uranus in Taurus, which will be exact three times in 2021 and will determine the overall tone of the year. Saturn square Uranus is the world that we’ve built up until now (Saturn) square to sudden, unexpected, revolutionary, freedom-seeking energies (Uranus). Sometimes you just have to scrap the entire plan and start something completely new and out-of-the box and perhaps Saturn will be more cooperative towards that end in Aquarius. It is possible to build a new world, we just have to make sure everyone gets a say in what that world looks like.
