Astrologers do not agree on whether we have entered into the Age of Aquarius. But I think we can all agree that whatever you believe, we are definitely in an age of change, transition, and uncertainty. What is really ramping up excitement about entering the Age of Aquarius again is the Grand Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn at 0 degrees Aquarius on the Capricorn Solstice on December 21, 2020. This is a grand 800 year cycle where Jupiter and Saturn meet up in the same element (fire, water, earth, air) for 200 years and then switch to another element. They are switching to air with this conjunction on December 21, 2020. They did slip into air back in December 1980 with a conjunction in Libra, kind of like a preview of the upcoming 200 year cycle. What does this mean for humanity? I have no idea.
I can tell you what I believe to be the highest expression of Aquarius. In its highest expression, Aquarius is forward-thinking, uniquely genius, an out-of-the-box thinker, humanitarian, concerned with community, a revolutionary freedom seeker, and won’t settle for anything less than authentic expression. Aquarius wants to contribute to the greater good. But that is where things can get dicey. What is the greater good? The highest good for all is very different from groupthink, and we are seeing that shadow right now. Another shadow of Aquarius is being so focused on the future and the promise of technology that it becomes ungrounded and even dismissive and destructive of nature and natural processes. It can also completely disregard time-tested wisdom and the lessons learned from the past in its haste to escape from the confines of Capricorn.
Ideally, someone expressing the highest ideals of Aquarius has also integrated the highest expression of its opposite sign, Leo. Leo is the individual who shines their brightest. They radiate their unique, authentic selves. They express their uniqueness. Leos know who they are and do not bow to anyone else. They are the true king and queen sovereign over themselves and their lives. These two signs compliment each other, balancing each other. It is through knowing who you really are and radiating that essence (Leo) that you can fully participate in your community and contribute your greatest gifts to the world (Aquarius).
Whatever you believe, Socrates said it best when he said “the secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on creating the new.” I know I am personally focusing on creating the new, a world where everyone has the real freedom to express their unique genius, because it is only through expressing our authentic, unique genius that we are able to contribute to the world in the highest and best way. Whether we are officially entering the Age of Aquarius now or later does not mean we cannot create the world we want to see right now.
