Life and nature are interchangeable in my mind, and astrology describes the cycles of life beautifully. Beginning in the Spring with Aries, new life is springing forth. This also corresponds to the years of our youth, to the childlike wonder and enthusiasm, the passion and the energy to learn, discover, and grow. Then continuing into the Summer with Cancer, life is bountiful. The evidence of Mother Earth’s nurturance is everywhere. This also corresponds to the twenties and thirties, where we are figuring out who we are, what we want, and trying to build a life. After that, it is Autumn and Libra, where the leaves begin to fall. This corresponds to our mid-life, our forties and fifties where we are no longer young. Ideally we have achieved an inner balance and coherence and the importance of letting go of that which does not truly enrich our lives becomes more important. Lastly we have Winter and Capricorn, the time where things are barren and still. There is a silent expectation, the inhalation of the Cosmic Breath of Life. This corresponds to our later years, where we are feeling a deep stirring in our souls to leave a legacy. This brings with it a maturity and responsibility to our inner yearnings that we perhaps did not feel so strongly in our younger years as we had so much life in front of us. It is at this time we realize that we have more life behind us now. Yet this cycle is so beautiful, and in its perfect beauty, we go round the zodiac, breath after breath, year after year. It is truly your choice whether you flow with the cycles of life; however, it does not change the fact that there are cycles of life, and no one is exempt from them. It is by honoring the cycles that we become instruments of Life and achieve an inner peace that comes with an acceptance of our impermanence.
